am i weeaboo of France?
Bonjour,
I just had my second French lesson today, we're going through some very basic stuff but I really need to know it backwards or else I wont really be able to develop!
I watched Paris J'taime last night and actually understood a lot of it without subtitles! Especially the one with the American woman who has moved to Paris (mainly because its narrated by an American who speaks French slowly and only uses basic language...but still!)
Apparently in a month Elodies goal for me is to be able to watch and understand a French film without subtitles, thats a pretty big step and I hope I can do it!
I have a lot of uni work at the moment and I haven't had much time to revise my French but I'm going to set myself an hour before bed everyday to do some revision so I'll be prepared for next week!
So excited about moving over there, I can literally feel myself improving at writing and speaking French! I hope I improve at this rate all year! Elodie moves back to Paris in June though so I'll have to find a new teacher which sucks!
Anywayyyyy
The new iPad looks poor
I have enough uni work to last a life time
Im on the verge of leaving my job because I cant afford to spend my time doing a job when I have so much work!
I am going out to eat with my dad tomorrow night
My mum wants to go to the theatre at some point soon so that should be good (got to start going to these kinds of things to broaden my horizons)
I really want a macbook
I have european cinema tomorrow :D
I'll leave you with a couple of videos;
The best short film in Paris J'taime (featuring Natalie Portman):

bonjour
The French classes I was supposed to be talking this month have been cancelled due to lack of interest...BUT...I've been on Gumtree.co.uk and found some choices for one on one French tutors.
There has been two people I have been emailing over the past few days, one of them is a guy called Olivier and a girl called Elodie, basically Olivier charges £6 an hour but has had no experience teaching before...
Elodie on the other hand actually works as a French assistant at a high school, but she charges £12 an hour, that is still very cheap though.
I guess you get what you pay for. So I'm going to start two lessons a week starting next week. An hour per lesson. That adds up to just under £100 every month (assuming 4 weeks are in a month)
I can afford that because of my job thankfully, it will leave me about £80 a week to spend on living (not including my loan)
She said that if i want to learn French fluently I will have to have more than one hour session a week. She knows what shes doing as she works in a school, so she said she can bring learning materials for homework etc.
Im looking forward to it so much! Iv'e even been planning a video blog which I will do when I eventually move over there (a bit far in advance but hey!)
Sooo, I'm going to update this blog with more stuff about my preparation to move etc.

okay so...
...I think this place may be perfect for blogging my build up to my move to Paris. I can write down the problems and successes of getting everything organised etc. Then possibly one day this information could be passed on to someone with the same idea, hopefully making their experience a bit less painless...?

bonjour!
Saturday night was very interesting...didn't sleep and ended up getting three trains home and sleeping all Sunday day and night. Fell asleep on the train a few times.
Just looking at rent prices in Paris, and it's horribly expensive, the cheapest ive seen is 550 euros a month, the exchange rate sucks so its nearly the same...plus that apartment is so small, it wouldn't be legal to rent it out over here. But I guess thats the price you pay for living in a capitol city anywhere, well, maybe not in iraq but hey.
French lessons begin in January, I think I already mentioned it but I'm looking forward to that. Come this time in 2 years I will be hopefully settled over there. Hardwick will be in Canada too...
au revoir

extended post
Well, a few things to mention so I'll mention them here;
The move to Paris is getting pretty real, I have booked my French lessons for january, so thats something to look forward to.
Ive handed all my uni work in for this semester and my christmas holidays have begun now, pretty early but it's nice to have a break. My uni work was kinda sub-standard because I rushed it...oops. As long as I graduate I think i'll be okay.
Here are a few interesting videos which I've found recently;
This Blood Orange song is great, I love the video too
This video is cool to, it's just a bad cover of the strokes by Dev and Frederik blood royale;
Also, Dev from Lightspeed is doing a count down of the 100 worst films as voted by IMDB, he's watching them all and doing a review, it's pretty hilarious.
I'm going out tonight with everyone as I haven't been out in a long time, don't really know what to expect but hopefully it should be a good night.
